Deliberate

Deliberate

Being a poem in the margin of the notebook page after watching clips of the film "Romero," about the life and assassination of MonseƱor Oscar Romero, including the one above, in class this morning.

The deliberate
protecting of the body
body of Christ
scattered
called together

The deliberate
putting on of the stole
the sacred garments
vesting to confront evil

The deliberate
reclaiming
of the sacred space

The deliberate
baptism
of the whole body
the whole

sacraments as
revolutionary acts
revolutionary

The deliberate
threatening
beating
raping
torturing
killing
of the prophetic body

The deliberate
resurrection
again
and again
and agin

  1. I love, love, love that scene of re-taking the church...the moment when the old Indian lady with the crutch who has stood on the periphery looking on, since the beginning of the film...MOVES. Wow.
    Thanks for posting it...

The desperation of sole figure of Romero picking up the scattered Eucharist, the body of Christ, in contrast with the strength of Romero who returns to reclaim the church building gathered with all the people, the body of Christ, is an image that replays in my mind.
