Towanda Chills

(Originally posted February, 2006).

The weather has been uncharacteristically frigid here for the last few days. Friday night during a commercial break for the Olympics, we flipped to the Weather Channel, which noted a current temperature of a whopping -27 degrees including the windchill factor. Yikes!

Well, you know my cielo is from more tropical climes, so this was a new experience for her! We threw our REI Parkas (thanks, Mom and Dad!) on over our jammies, and went outside to frolic in the brisk night air. For about 1 minute. Just enough so she could say she'd done it, you know.

This afternoon I took a break from my reading and we went for a walk to the neighborhood park. We climbed the hill that has a beautiful view of the Rockies, and threw snowballs at each other. Then...and this is the crazy part...we wandered over to Dairy Queen and had some ice cream. Sitting outside. The temp was about 15. You're thinking we're nuts, I'm sure, but there was no "inside" in which to sit. So we found a spot in the sun and enjoyed our Peanut Buster Parfaits.

Hey, it may be cold, but it's a bright, bright sun-shiney day.

Amen, and pass the lip balm.
